MTN Group Limited is a publicly owned South African multinational mobile telecommunications company founded in 1994. Its headquarters are located in South Africa, and it operates mobile network services across numerous countries in Africa and Asia.
MTN Group completed successful trials of satellite-to-mobile technology in rural South Africa on an unspecified date, using standard mobile phones to access satellite networks without specialized equipment, in partnership with Lynk Global. On an unspecified date, the GSMA Board of Directors elected Ralph Mupita, MTN Group CEO, as its new Deputy Chair, a position he will hold until the end of 2026. This followed the appointment of Bharti Airtel vice chairman Gopal Vittal as chair. Separately, MTN Group and Airtel Africa announced agreements to share network infrastructure in Uganda and Nigeria, aiming to improve network cost efficiencies, expand coverage, and enhance mobile services.
