News Summary:

The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) recently described MTN's acquisition of IHS Towers as a significant industry development, reflecting renewed investor confidence and regulatory stability in Nigeria's telecom sector. This follows MTN Group's announcement earlier in the week regarding its agreement to acquire the remaining shares in IHS Towers, increasing its ownership from 24.7% to 100%. The proposed US$2.26 billion transaction, which excludes IHS’s Latin American operations and is partly funded through US$1.1 billion of IHS’s own cash, marks a transformative step in strengthening MTN's strategic and financial position. Also on February 20, MTN Nigeria partnered with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to provide free high-speed Wi-Fi at major international airports across the country. Earlier, on February 19, MTN Cameroon received certification as a Top Employer 2026 from the Top Employers Institute, with the award formally presented during the Africa Awards & Gala Evening in Johannesburg.
