MTS (Telekom Srbija), a state-owned telecommunications company founded in 1997, is headquartered in Serbia. Employing approximately 2,850 people, the company generated over $1 billion in revenue in 2023. MTS offers fixed-line, mobile, television, and internet services under the MTS brand across Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro.
Telekom Srbija plans to acquire eighteen small local cable operators within the next two years, completing a market consolidation strategy that began in 2018. This acquisition, according to Telekom Srbija, represents the final stage of market consolidation, with smaller operators selling to the largest player. Separately, on September 15, Telekom Srbija announced plans to acquire 18 local cable operators over the next two years to strengthen its market position. On September 19, United Group, a telecommunications and media company, stated that its current management does not intend to sell its Serbian channels, N1 and Nova TV, to Telekom Srbija, nor to compromise their editorial independence. United Group also rejected accusations of curtailing editorial freedom at N1 and Nova TV or planning to sell the channels to Telekom Srbija.
