NBCUniversal, a privately owned company headquartered in the US, is a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation. Founded in 2004, the company employs approximately 52,950 individuals and reported $39.2B in revenue as of 2024. Functioning as an American mass media and entertainment conglomerate, it engages in broadcast, cable TV, internet service, and film and TV production. Its extensive portfolio includes subsidiaries such as Cineo Lighting, Comcast SportsTech, NBC Sports, NBCU Advertising & Partnerships, NBCUniversal Media Group, NBCUniversal News Group, Open AP, Showmax, Universal Beijing Resort, Universal Orlando Resort, Universal Pictures, and Universal Studio Group.
On March 14, NBCUniversal announced the cancellation of several long-running talk shows, including "The Steve Wilkos Show" and "Karamo," with two of these programs filmed in Stamford. Earlier the same day, NBCUniversal development executives discussed the impact of shorter television seasons at SXSW. Vivian Cannon, EVP Drama Development at Universal Television, noted that financially, longer seasons present a better model as per-episode budget allocation improves when divided by more episodes. This decision is part of a broader move by NBCUniversal to cease production on multiple programs and exit its first-run syndication business. The company confirmed cancellations for "Access Hollywood" and its counterpart "Access Daily" (formerly Access Live), with "Access Hollywood" ending a three-decade run. These programs will conclude in September, as NBCUniversal phases out first-run syndicated programming, citing the decline of daytime television.
