Previously, on September 1, the conference also named its men's soccer Players of the Week, highlighting an Oregon State forward whose goal helped topple No. 11 Washington, UC San Diego's goalkeeper for recording a pair of shutouts, and a Gonzaga defender for five points in two victories. This follows Pac-12 Commissioner Teresa Gould's mid-August reflection on the conference's recent challenges and its ambition to be "in a tier of its own." Earlier, on August 18, reports indicated the Mountain West conference would receive $69 million in a settlement, comprising $49 million in exit fees from five schools that departed for the Pac-12, and an additional $20 million in "poaching fees" from the two remaining Pac-12 schools. The Fresno Bee, through a public records request, confirmed that Fresno State was one of the schools owing its former conference $9.8 million as part of the $49 million in exit fees.
