News Summary:

On Tuesday, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) approved an Rs11 billion financial bailout for Pakistan Television (PTV). This bailout followed a report by PTV that the United States approved a relief assistance package for Pakistan following devastating floods. The US aid will provide food, shelter, and other emergency support. Separately, PTV faces a humanitarian crisis, as hundreds of employees have gone without pay for three months since January 2025. The ECC bailout is intended as short-term relief, while long-term liabilities remain. The government also approved a separate Rs11 billion subsidy for PTV to offset losses from the withdrawal of a Rs35 monthly fee previously collected through electricity bills. A recovery plan for Rs47 billion in outstanding petroleum levy dues from Cynergico Refinery was also endorsed by the ECC.
