The R&A, a privately owned organization headquartered in the UK, is the governing body for golf in most of the world, excluding the United States and Mexico. Founded in 2004 through a merger of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (established 1754) and the Women's Golf Association, it employs approximately 230 people. The R&A's primary function is the administration of golf, encompassing rule-setting, championship organization, and global promotion of the sport.
The R&A announced that the plan for greens at upcoming golf events is to achieve the desired speed and firmness a few days before the first tee shot, aiming for summer links conditions while allowing for weather adjustments. The Senior Open Championship will be co-sanctioned by the Legends Tour and PGA TOUR Champions, contributing to both the Legends Tour Order of Merit and the Schwab Cup. ISPS HANDA became the new title sponsor. The G4D Open, a championship established in 2023 and co-staged with the DP World Tour and supported by EDGA, will see many golfers with disabilities compete at Woburn from May 15-17.
