On July 8, 2026, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) renamed its Amateur Athlete of the Year Award in honor of Dan Bromley, who won the award in 2011 before becoming a professional champion in AMA Grand National Championship competition. Previously, on July 6, the AMA announced the passing of 14-year-old amateur flat-track racer Alyssa Kruppenbacker from Crescent City, Fla., following an on-track incident during the Mile program of the AMA Flat Track Grand Championship in Du Quoin, Ill. Earlier, on June 30, national registration opened for the 45th Annual Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship presented by AMSOIL, with registration remaining available until July 8. This followed the AMA's confirmation on June 25 that the third-annual AMA Pitbike Championship will run in 2026 alongside Permco AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days presented by Turn 14 Distribution, with SSR Motorsports serving as title sponsor and All Balls Racing as presenting sponsor.
