The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) is a non-profit organization that serves as the governing body for international weightlifting. It was founded in 1905 and is headquartered in Switzerland. The IWF is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the sole controlling body for international weightlifting and is composed of 194 affiliated National Federations from all five continents. The organization's primary mission is to promote and develop the sport of weightlifting worldwide, establish and enforce rules and regulations, organize international competitions, and ensure the fair and ethical conduct of weightlifting events. The IWF also works to promote weightlifting as a healthy and accessible sport, and to encourage participation at all levels.
