Latvijas Televīzija (LTV), founded in 1954, is Latvia's state-owned public service broadcaster. Operating two channels, LTV1 (primarily Latvian-language) and LTV7 (Latvian with some Russian programming), LTV provides television and radio services. As a member of the European Broadcasting Union (since 1993), LTV employs approximately 180 people and generated less than $50 million in revenue in 2023. Its headquarters are located in Latvia.
Latvia plans to purchase three passenger trains for operation on the Rail Baltica European standard-gauge railway, as Transport Minister Atis Švinka announced on Latvian Television’s program Šodienas jautājums on Thursday. Estonia also announced plans to acquire up to five new passenger trains for domestic Rail Baltica routes. Separately, Prime Minister Evika Silina discussed service pension equality in an interview on Latvian Television, stating that budget concerns necessitate addressing this issue. Riga Vice Mayor Edvards Ratnieks, in an interview with Latvian Television’s Rīta panorāma program, acknowledged that while no official request for municipal austerity measures exists, there are indications of pressure in that direction.
