On April 23, 2026, a panel of experts concluded that AI agents are a key element for employing the technology across various network operations, though they emphasized that concerns over trust and governance must be addressed before the agents can be used in closed-loop scenarios. Previously, on April 22, Swisscom and Swiss utility Energie Wasser Bern (EWB) neared completion on the construction of a fibre network in Bern. By the end of 2026, the network is expected to connect over 15,000 premises with approximately 100,000 units, including private homes, offices, and commercial businesses, covering over 90 percent of all premises across the city. This joint project follows an agreement signed in late 2021, which made EWB responsible for approximately 70 percent of the network build and Swisscom for 30 percent.
