The United Rugby Championship (URC), a privately owned professional rugby union competition, was founded in 2001. Based in Ireland and employing approximately 30 people, the URC in 2023 featured 16 teams from Ireland, Italy, Scotland, South Africa, and Wales. Previously known as the Guinness Pro14, the league adopted its current name in 2021 following the inclusion of South African teams.
On September 4, 2025, OFX renewed its partnership with the United Rugby Championship as the league’s Official Currency Exchange Partner. The South African Rugby Union became the league’s sixth shareholder on an unspecified date, joining the Irish, Italian, Scottish, and Welsh rugby unions, and CVC Capital Partners in Pro Rugby Championship DAC, the company that operates the league. The URC ended its work with RTÉ on its OTT streaming service, now operating the service independently. The URC's expansion into the United States has shown some progress, though specific details were not provided.
