Founded in 2002, the YES Network is a privately owned media company headquartered in the United States. Employing approximately 430 people, it is the highest-rated regional sports network in the country. YES Network holds exclusive local television rights to broadcast games for the New York Yankees, Brooklyn Nets, New York City FC (Major League Soccer), and the New York Liberty (WNBA). In addition to live sporting events, the network produces and airs original programming, including biographies, interviews, magazine-style shows, college sports coverage, and broadcasts of Manchester City football (soccer) matches.
The FCC Chairman Brendan Carr pressured Comcast to renew a deal with YES Network on favorable terms earlier this year. In March, YES Network and Comcast reached a temporary agreement to avoid a broadcast blackout, but this agreement is set to expire this fall. Separately, YES Network reported that Yankees shortstop Volpe was out of the Wednesday game versus the Tigers, and manager Aaron Boone will decide on a replacement on a day-to-day basis. YES Network also reported that Yankees rookie pitcher Cam Schlittler achieved a unique feat, becoming the first rookie pitcher in team history to record two consecutive starts with at least 6.0 innings pitched and eight strikeouts. Finally, YES Network broadcasts typically feature Michael Kay as the play-by-play announcer.
