Elisa resumed carriage of MTV's channels on July 3, 2026, on its Elisa Viihte entertainment service and cable television network after reaching a distribution agreement with Schibsted broadcaster MTV. This agreement resolved a long-term dispute between the Finnish telecommunications company and MTV, allowing customers to automatically access MTV3, MTV Sub, and MTV Ava in their usual channel positions. Previously, Schibsted, MTV's parent company, published its 2025 Annual Report on June 30, indicating a strengthened position in the Nordic media market and clear results from changes initiated after becoming a standalone media company in summer 2024. This followed MTV's extension of its exclusive rights to Finland's top-tier domestic ice hockey competitions through the 2031-32 season, unveiled on June 29 in a deal brokered by Commercial Sports Media (CSM). The dispute with Elisa stemmed from MTV's termination of their distribution agreements on May 13, which ceased live viewing of MTV's free-to-air channels for approximately 800,000 households via Elisa's services, effective just two days before the popular World Ice Hockey Championships.
