On April 30, 2026, Vietnam concluded the 6th Asian Beach Games (ABG) in Sanya, China, by winning its third gold medal, defeating China 2-1 in the women’s beach handball final. Also on April 30, Satoshi Murate, Secretary General of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games Organising Committee (AINAGOC), met with Japanese House of Councillors member Koichi Mizuno in Nagoya to discuss preparations for the 20th Asian Games, scheduled from September 19 to October 4. An OCA Young Reporter, Hana Al Dayyat, provided a personal reflection on the Asian Beach Games from Sanya. Previously, on April 29, 2026, Iran won seven gold medals on the penultimate day of the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, accumulating nine gold medals in total and moving into third place in the overall medal rankings behind China (24) and Thailand (10). This followed the official signing of the contract on April 28, 2026, in Sanya, China, confirming Cebu, Philippines, as the host for the 2028 Asian Beach Games. This will be the first time the tournament is held in the Philippines.
