Founded in 1956, the corporation employs approximately 4860 individuals and reported $1.3B in revenue as of 2024. It specializes in broadcast television and radio as the Spanish national public television and radio broadcaster. Formed in 2007, it succeeded the Ente Público Radiotelevisión Española (RTVE Public Entity).
On March 29, 2026, The Walt Disney Company and Radiotelevision Espanola (RTVE) finalized what is considered a first-of-its-kind licensing partnership in Europe, allowing selected RTVE programs to become available on Disney+ immediately after their broadcast on La 1. This agreement, announced by Disney on March 27, will bring new RTVE shows to Disney+ starting March 31, nearly instantly after their premiere on the linear television channel La1, in a tie-up mirroring FOX's deal with Disney in the United States. Earlier, on February 19, El Consell approved a decree granting a direct subsidy of €15 million to RTVE for the organization of Benidorm Fest 2026. The Generalitat views the event as a strategic instrument for tourism promotion and economic revitalization of Valencia.
