News Summary:

On February 8, the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Association of Olympic Committees of Portuguese Official Language (ACOLOP) to support the sustainable growth of Baseball/Softball in Portuguese-speaking countries within the Olympic Movement. Previously, on February 1, World No. 1 Japan claimed an undefeated victory in the 2026 Softball Australia Cup, defeating No. 11 Australia 4–1 in the Brisbane final. This three-day tournament, which also featured No. 23 New Zealand, was live-streamed globally via WBSC's OTT channel GameTime and locally in Australia by Kayo Sports, a broadcasting arrangement announced on January 25. Earlier, on January 20, WBSC renewed agreements with key integrity partners Sportradar and Green Future Project. The extension with Sportradar continues their partnership, established in 2022, providing tools such as the Universal Fraud Detection System (UFDS) to monitor unusual betting behavior and combat competition manipulation in WBSC international tournaments. On January 18, U-18 Baseball World Cup alumnus Patrick Silva, an Italian slugging first baseman, signed a contract with Major League Baseball's (MLB) Philadelphia Phillies, commencing his professional career in the Dominican Republic.
