Osterreichischer Rundfunk, also known as ORF or Austrian Broadcasting Corporation, is a state-owned tier 1 media tech buyer headquartered in Austria. Founded in 1955, the corporation employs approximately 1,060 individuals and reported $1.2 billion in revenue as of 2024. The company specializes in broadcast television and radio. Functioning as the national public broadcaster of Austria, it is funded by a combination of television licence fee revenue and limited on-air advertising, and is considered a dominant player in the Austrian broadcast media. Historically, Austria was the final country in continental Europe, after Albania, to permit nationwide private television broadcasting, although commercial TV channels from neighboring Germany had been available in Austria on pay-TV and via terrestrial overspill since the 1980s.
ORF implemented MatchBox technology from Hitomi Broadcast as part of a large-scale migration to SMPTE ST 2110 IP-based infrastructure. This implementation involved a comprehensive timing measurement solution across the new infrastructure, facilitated by a partnership with VIDI GmbH. The news of this implementation was announced by Hitomi Broadcast on multiple occasions.
