Osterreichischer Rundfunk, also known as the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF), is a state-owned entity headquartered in Austria. The organization, a tier 1 media tech buyer, was founded in 1955, employs approximately 1,060 individuals, and reported $1.2B in revenue as of 2024. Functioning as the national public broadcaster of Austria, ORF specializes in broadcast television and radio. It is funded from a combination of television licence fee revenue and limited on-air advertising, establishing itself as a dominant player in the Austrian broadcast media. Historically, Austria was the last country in continental Europe after Albania to allow nationwide private television broadcasting, despite commercial TV channels from neighboring Germany being present in Austria on pay-TV and via terrestrial overspill since the 1980s.

News Summary:

On June 25, 2026, Osterreichischer Rundfunk's (ORF) technical subsidiary, Big Blue Marble, provided cloud-based live transmission for the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna. The infrastructure, engineered by Big Blue Marble's Professional Services team, enabled the broadcast of the semi-finals and final across Austria, reaching over 1.5 million television viewers and 160,000 online streamers. Earlier, on June 23, ORF deployed 24 ARRI ALEXA 35 Live cameras at the contest to deliver a cinematic aesthetic for the live entertainment broadcast. This followed the broadcaster's aim, revealed on June 19, to elevate the impact of the event after Austria won the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest and earned hosting rights. Previously, on May 16, ORF Director General Roland Weissman resigned in March 2026 following harassment claims by a female employee, which he denies, amidst an "existential crisis" for the broadcaster.
