On August 19, 2026, organizers of the 2026 World Triathlon Multisport Championships Abu Dhabi unveiled the official race routes as preparations advanced for the November event. Previously, on August 16, Italy and Latvia claimed gold medals at the Junior Cup in Chisinau, Moldova, with Latvia's Beate Jansone returning to the top step of the podium after winning the Baltic Championships. This followed the 2026 World Triathlon Development Regional Cup Kilifi in Kenya, hosted on August 14, which welcomed athletes from across Africa and the Indian Ocean region to race in the Indian Ocean, followed by a coastal bike course and beachfront run. Also on August 14, Chisinau, Moldova, prepared to host the Europe Triathlon Junior Cup, expecting over 80 athletes, with Jansone set to wear bib number one in the Junior Women's race. Earlier, on August 13, the International Testing Agency (ITA), which leads World Triathlon's independent anti-doping program, reported that Saudi Arabian triathlete Abdulrahman Alghamdi received a six-year period of ineligibility after testing positive for several prohibited substances.
