The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), founded in 1900 and headquartered in Switzerland, is the internationally recognized governing body for cycling, recognized by the International Olympic Committee. Employing approximately 260 people, the UCI oversees eight cycling disciplines: road, track, mountain bike, cyclo-cross, BMX, trials, indoor, and para-cycling. Four of these disciplines are Olympic sports, two are Paralympic, and three are featured in the Youth Olympic Games. The UCI's activities include developing and promoting cycling as a competitive sport, recreational activity, and mode of transport, and organizing various events such as the annual UCI Road World Championships and other World Championships and World Cups across its disciplines.

On September 12, 2025, SRAM issued a press release and filed a complaint with the Belgian Competition Authority regarding the UCI's Maximum Gear Ratio Test Protocol for the 2025 Tour of Guangxi, scheduled for October 14-19. The Belgian Competition Authority opened an investigation on September 19, 2025, into the UCI's adoption of a technical standard limiting maximum gear ratios in professional road cycling. The UCI published the list of TV broadcasters for the 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Kigali, Rwanda, from September 21-28.
