AMC Global Media, also known as AMC Networks and Rainbow Media Holdings, is a Publicly Owned entity based in the US and functions as a tier 1 media tech buyer. Founded in 1980, the company operates with approximately 2,920 employees and reported $2.3B in revenue as of 2025. It specializes in broadcast television and radio, having rebranded on April 8, 2026, to reflect its transformation into a studio-driven and streaming-focused global enterprise. Formerly AMC Networks Inc. and originally Rainbow Media Holdings (a subsidiary of Cablevision) before spinning off as a public company in 2011, the corporation prioritizes its direct-to-consumer (DTC) services, which include AMC+, Shudder, Acorn TV, and HIDIVE, serving over 10 million subscribers globally. The company operates prominent linear and digital brands such as AMC, BBC America (a joint venture), SundanceTV, WE tv, and IFC, while its production arm, AMC Studios, creates franchises like The Walking Dead universe and Anne Rice's Immortal Universe.
AMC Networks' first-quarter performance stood out in comparison to broadcasting peers, with adjusted operating income falling 34% to $69 million, representing 13% of revenue. Despite this, the company reported positive free cash flow of $65 million and reaffirmed its 2026 financial outlook. This follows the company's Q1 2026 earnings transcript on June 1, which noted that results matched prior management expectations, with consolidated revenue and adjusted operating income declining year-over-year while free cash flow strengthened the full-year outlook. The company emphasized a strategic pivot away from quarterly streaming subscriber reporting to prioritize free cash flow, highlighting double-digit streaming revenue growth as its primary domestic revenue stream. Earlier, on May 8, AMC Networks reported a 2% decline in consolidated net revenue to $542 million for Q1. Concurrently, adjusted operating income decreased 34% to $69 million. Despite the overall revenue and operating income declines, the streaming business achieved double-digit growth, reaching 10.1 million subscribers and a five-year high in engagement. At that time, management reiterated its 2026 outlook, including approximately $2.25 billion in consolidated revenue, around $350 million in consolidated adjusted operating income, and at least $200 million in free cash flow.
