Disney+, also known as Disney Streaming and Disney Direct-to-Consumer, a privately owned company and a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, headquartered in the US, was founded in 2019 and employs approximately 3380 individuals. The Disney Direct-to-Consumer division reported $22.8B in revenue as of 2024. It specializes in media and TV services, functioning as a global OTT streaming platform. Created following the acquisition of BAMTech, it operates globally under various content brands including Disney+, Disney+ Hotstar, and Hulu. Its subsidiaries include Bamtech Media, Fubo TV, Hulu, and JioStar. The division previously ran ESPN+ and Star+.
On March 11, 2026, a report indicated that legacy media-owned video streaming platforms, including Disney+, increased their "media value"—advertising and promotion time—on corporate-owned TV networks by 11%. Estimates from iSpot showed this value reached $214.6 million for the three-month period from December 11, 2025, to March 10, 2026, an increase from $192.5 million for the same period a year earlier. Previously, on March 10, 2026, Disney+ announced it would stream March Madness across Europe and South Africa from March 17 to April 7. This move, part of ESPN’s global NCAA rights agreement, will bring 134 live games from the NCAA Division I men’s and women’s basketball tournaments to Disney+ subscribers, with coverage also extending to the Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand.
