Founded in 1998 by royal decree, the company operates with approximately 21,500 employees. Functioning as the primary telecommunications and digital services provider in Saudi Arabia, the group provides a range of ICT services, including fixed-line and mobile telephony, broadband internet, and cloud computing, across the Middle East and parts of Europe. The company operates as a conglomerate with major subsidiaries such as solutions by stc (IT services), stc pay (digital banking), and center3 (digital infrastructure), and also holds strategic international stakes in operators like Telefónica. STC is centrally involved in Saudi Arabia’s digital infrastructure development, encompassing the rollout of 5G networks and the provision of neutral digital hosts for major national "giga-projects" such as Diriyah.
STC Group reported record growth in network traffic and demand for connectivity services at Saudi Arabia's two holy mosques during Ramadan on March 16, 2026. Data traffic at Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah increased by over 21%, with more than 48% of internet traffic carried over its 5G network, representing an 18% increase compared to 2025. Previously, on March 8, 2026, STC Group announced it rolled out the second phase of its 'New Calling' initiative with a pilot enabling real-time Arabic–English translation during voice calls using AI.
